Meaningless Top Ten List: Volume 6

You can tell it's been a tiring and busy week when I have two meaningless list posts in a row. And July is just going to get worse and worse. Here's what the following month looks like for The Evil One.

July 2: Work from 1:30 AM until about 9 or 10, then back home to shower, finish packing, and then trying to navigate my way to my friend's apartment in Bradley Beach, NJ. Then, drinking until Monday.

July 5: Into work for an hour or two to clean up anything that might have been left behind by the drivers.

Sometime between the 6th and the 8th: Signing the lease to my new apartment.

July 9-10: Moving in with 2 of my friends to our awesome apartment.

July 17-29: FedEx Ground job training in scenic Pittsburgh, PA.

And of course, every weekday in between those are 10 hour workdays (at least) in a poorly-ventilated warehouse. Fun fun fun.

Any-hoo, I believe it's time once again for a meaningless top 10 list. I used to have a backlog of these things, but due to my own complacence and/or insane work schedule, this is the last of my backlog. Looks like I'll have to try and be creative come next week. But until then, here is my most favorite (and most frustrating to determine) meaningless Top 10 List:

Top 10 Greatest Songs Ever Made (That Weren't Made By The Beatles)

10. "American Pie" Don McLean. I think it's an obscure law that every college student in America know the words to this song. Believe me, it's a lot easier to memorize 9 minutes of lyrics than it is to memorize a handful of stupid physics theorems.

9. "Bohemian Rhapsody" Queen
. Isn't it obvious?

8. "Don't Let's Start" They Might Be Giants
. What? It's only the GREATEST POP SONG EVER.

EVER.

7. "Paradise City" Guns N' Roses
. No matter what your feeling towards Axl Rose or metal in general, nobody can deny how badass this song really is. The perfect song for the summer and impossible to resist singing along to.

6. "Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay" Otis Redding
. It is clinically impossible not to love this song.

5. "Today" The Smashing Pumpkins
. The most awesome song recorded during the 90's. Don't even try to argue.

4. "Thunder Road" Bruce Springsteen
. [explanation deleted; deemed not necessary]

3. "What's Going On" Marvin Gaye
. The man was a genius. Everything that R&B music should be; meaningful, soulful and damn near heartbreaking.

2. "With God On Our Side" Bob Dylan
. The most meaningful song in history. Still just as powerful now as it was 30 years ago. The greatest lyricist America has ever produced.

1. "What A Wonderful World" Louis Armstrong
. This is the single absolute pinnacle of human achievement in recorded sound. Everything after this has just been pretending. The perfect song; simple, catchy, hopeful, mournful and timeless all at once. Nothing else even comes close.
